Mangalore University Titled as 'Most Sustainable University of 2020' by Green Metric


Mangalore University: Green Metric has entitled Mangalore University as the Most Sustainable University of 2020 in the country and the University is positioned at 139th rank in the world-wide ranking. 31 Indian Universities in total were positioned in the global list which provides an online assessment of the annual campus sustainability performance.

Mangalore University offers certificate, postgraduate diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in several streams such as Arts, Commerce, Management, Science, and Technology.

The university has 25 PG departments on the campus, 2 constituent colleges, and 13 education, 4 law, 5 autonomous, and 119 affiliated colleges or institutions. The University is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). 

The Netherland-based Wageningen University & Research has bagged the first position in the global list. The global list ranks countries on the basis of six indicators that are - Setting & Infrastructure, Energy & Climate Change, Waste Management, Water Management, Transportation Management, and Education & Research Sustainability.

Mangalore University had scored a total of 7200 points with points in respective indicators as follows - 

  • Setting & Infrastructure - 1250 points
  • Energy & Climate Change - 1400 points
  • Waste Management - 1050 points
  • Water Management - 725 points
  • Transportation Management - 1275 points
  • Education & Research Sustainability - 1500 points

Education Minister while congratulating NIT Silchar, which was ranked 6th in national rankings, stated that he is immensely happy to share that NIT Silchar has bagged 6th position in India and 275th position in the world in the UI Green Metric 2020. 

He informed that 922 universities from 84 countries participated in the rankings and he also congratulated NIT Silchar Director, Mr. Sivaji Bandyopadhyay for the achievement.

The Green Metric invites Universities to participate in the annual ranking process and allows them to register themselves at their official website - @greenmetric.ui.ac.id.
