In his official tweet, he wrote, "Congratulations from the Government of Maharashtra to the Vice-Chancellor, Professors, Officers, Staff, Senate Members, Management Council Members, Students and all concerned for getting A ++ rating with 3.65 marks from National Evaluation and Rating Council (NAAC)".

Mumbai University's previous NAAC rating expired four years ago in April 2017. Since then the university has been trying to get ratings from the council. After several tries, the NAAC team agreed to visit the Mumbai University campus for the rating inspection on August 24, 2021.

After the inspection, the NAAC team evaluated the ratings of the university. The NAAC ratings are offered based on teaching, infrastructure, learning of the students, governance of the particular university, and other parameters.

MU has improved its NAAC rating from 3.05 CGPA and an ‘A’ grade awarded in 2012 in the old format, which expired in 2017.

NAAC received the self-study report, or SSR from various universities, and accordingly schedules its inspection visits. The team visits the varsity and verifies the details submitted to ensure transparency in the rating process.

Earlier, in 2019, Mumbai University submitted its Institutional Information for Quality assessment report to NAAC for rating purposes, however, the process was canceled in between due to the incomplete database submitted by the university.
