MUHS to Offer 3 Months Free Online Studies for Ukraine-Returned Medical Students

New Delhi: The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) is in the process of finalising the study materials for undergraduate medical students who returned from war-torn Ukraine. The study facility will be offered in online mode, completely free of cost.

MUHS Nashik Vice-Chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar stated that plans to provide the course materials study-wise to such students online from the first week of April 2022.

She also added that due to the difference in medical education curriculum between India and Ukraine, MUHS has engaged 20 faculty members recently recruited for the medical college proposed at Nashik for sourcing and preparing study materials for such students.

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Kanitkar further stated that the medical students belonging to Maharashtra who returned from Ukraine should compulsorily register with MUHS. So far, 900 students have already registered and the numbers may rise to 2000 when the scheme commences.

Such a scheme of MUHS to help medical students returning from Ukraine comes in the wake of the request made by Maharashtra Education Minister Amit Deshmukh to MUHS in terms of helping such students due to uncertainty regarding the returning of students to their respective universities in Ukraine.

The duration of the study module will be of 3 months and the study material would be provided to the students registered with MUHS without any charges. MUHS may later explore the possibility of extending the course duration depending on the chain of events.

Prateek Jondhale, a Nashik-based first-year student at Kharkiv National Medical University, Ukraine has registered for the online study module.

Earlier, medical colleges in Karnataka planned to undertake similar steps for accommodating medical students fromUkraine. The Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared that the state government has been considering measures to reduce the fees for the medical courses in the state.

The health minister revealed that all possible arrangements would be made in the Karnataka medical colleges to facilitate the continuation of studies of Ukraine returned students.
