Mumbai University Admission 2022 to Start Without CBSE, ISC Results; Details Here

New Delhi: Mumbai University has decided to move ahead with degree college admissions for the academic session 2022-23 without waiting for CBSE, ICSE, and other national board exam results.

The decision to start the admission process at Mumbai University has been criticized for being "unfair and discriminatory" by students who are awaiting results and preparing to apply for admission to Mumbai University-affiliated colleges.

As per the admission schedule released for Mumbai University Courses, the university has informed that the admission process will conclude on June 25, 2022, for degree colleges. The first merit list for the same will be published on the university website on June 29, 2022.

With this, students who are shortlisted for admission under the first merit list release will have time till July 06, 2022, to confirm their admission seats. The second merit list for MU Admission 2022 will be released on the university website for the remaining seats on July 07, 2022.

The admission circular, issued by the Director of Board of Examination and Evaluation at Mumbai University, Vinod Patil has directed all MU-affiliated colleges to follow the admission guidelines and start the admission process as per the schedule released.

“The colleges may get permission from the university for additional seats in excess of the intake to admit CBSE and ICSE board students as per colleges merit cut-off in due course", the circular further reads.

Students may go to Court Over MU Admission Decision

Students who are still awaiting their results have termed the circular as an unfair admission process. The students stated that starting the admission process without waiting for the result declaration denies equal admission opportunities for non-state board students.

Expressing their concerns, a CBSE board school principal said, “Our students too hope for a seat in degree courses of their choice in colleges they desire to join. By beginning the admission process, the university is denying them that opportunity to compete fairly".

By the time the board exam result is announced, most seats will be filled in affiliated colleges under Mumbai University Admission 2022. Students will have to depend on the university to offer them remaining admission seats or increase the admission intake for board students.

MU officials said, "students from CBSE and ISC schools make up only 4-5 percent of the total aspirants applying to Mumbai University”. While other sources mentioned that "in some of the city’s top-rung colleges, they take up almost 40- 50 percent seats in sought-after courses".

Informing about the admission process, a CBSE school principal said, "If admissions are based on HSC only, the cut-offs will be lower. A lot of CBSE and ISC students will become eligible for these top colleges. How many students can these colleges accommodate later? There should be space to start extra divisions"

Some of the autonomous degree colleges of Mumbai University are preparing to conduct entrance tests for admissions, in which weightage will be given to class 12th scores. Students might move to court against the university's decision.
