Mumbai University Decides Not to Change Pattern of Semester Exams 2022

New Delhi: Mumbai University declared that the exam pattern will not change for the semester exams 2022. The decision is made a day after the Higher Education Department recommended that all state University Summer 2022 examinations be held in offline mode and that institutions phase out the MCQs.

Mumbai University will be allowed to use a combination of MCQs and descriptive questions for its semester exams 2022.

Vinod Patil, director of the Board of Examination and Evaluation (BoEE), MU stated,” State government rule is more to do with the mode of examination, which MU had already suggested will be held offline. We will continue conducting exams based on the March 4 circular, and as of now, we don’t plan to release any new circulars”.

St Andrew’s College, Bandra, principal, Marie Fernandes stated that they have not received any notice from MU regarding any new changes in the exam. “We are going by the March 4 circular, and our exam paper sets are ready accordingly with a mix of MCQs and descriptive questions. Changing the paper pattern now will be wrong because teachers and students are prepared for exams based on the set paper pattern”, she added.

Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant met with the vice-chancellors of all state institutions and reached an agreement to hold all university summer 2022 examinations offline. Following nearly two years of online exams, most state universities recommended reintroducing offline exams for the summer 2022 session.

In February, MU issued a circular announcing that summer 2022 examinations will be held both online and offline. All UG examinations for session 2 (regular) commerce, arts, and science, as well as backlog exams for the same batches, will be held offline. Backlog examinations (ATKT) for semesters 1, 3, and 5, as well as semester 4 exams for regular and backlog students, were held online this year.

In the first week of March, MU issued another statement clarifying that semester six examinations for aided and unaided programmes of MU will be held online this year, but all exams for professional and postgraduate will be held offline.

Exams for first-year undergraduate students are set to begin in May, and universities are concerned that any adjustments at this point may disrupt the entire schedule.
