Mumbai University declares third merit-list; cutoffs as high as previous years


Mumbai University declared its third merit list on Monday, maintaining high cutoffs just as previous years.

The third merit list was released by Mumbai University with high cutoffs for all streams, more so for humanities. The entrance examinations for admission to medical courses are scheduled to be conducted in September.

Every year, entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CET conducted by the Maharashtra state are usually conducted in April and May, with the results being announced two months after the exams.

However due to the emergence and spread of COVID-19, these examinations had been further postponed. So far, there has been no proper announcement regarding the revised schedule of CETs. 

Some colleges have expressed their concerns regarding the delay in the entrance exams and how it will lead to lesser students taking admission, leaving many seats vacant. They have also pointed out that a lot of switching of courses will also take place after the announcement of results. Students tend to switch to colleges and courses of their choice after two or three months.

This is usually not a problem since every year, by August the university conducts admissions to fill up the remaining seats. However, since this year entrances are being conducted late, it would be very difficult to fill the vacant seats after students switch.
