Mumbai University Reschedules UG, PG Exams to October 18; Details here


Mumbai University has rescheduled the final year examination of October 12, 2020, in the view of major power outage issue in the city. As of now, there is no confirmation regarding the restoration of power in Mumbai.

Earlier, Mumbai University final year examinations were scheduled to begin from October 12, 2020, through online mode which has now been slated for October 18, 2020. Despite the rescheduled dates, all UG and PG final year students are concerned over the future of the examination.

The principal of K.C College and Cluster Head university examinations 2020, Mumbai University, Hemlata Bagla informed all the students that due to massive breakdown of power supply all over Maharashtra, the UG and PG examinations are rescheduled to Sunday, October 18, 2020.

About 200 colleges are affiliated with Mumbai University, and the present situation has made students and authorities worry about the future. 

Earlier, electricity was restored in places like Lower Parel, Worli, Dadar, Kalina and Charni Road post 2 hours of blackout. This major power cut had actually affected activities of the lifeline of Mumbai City: Central and Western Railway.

The examinations are already being conducted in the university from October 1, 2020, through online mode. There are 2,47,500 students appearing for the examination. 1 Hour duration is allotted to the students for 50 MCQ type questions. 

Mumbai University: Power outage hits hard 

100 Arts, Science and Commerce colleges from 10 clusters which are affiliated to Mumbai University postponed their exams and a total of 18,950 students managed to appear for the exam from 32 various centres. The rescheduled exam date for KC College is on October 18, 2020, while for Rizvi and St. Andrew’s College is October 15, 2020.

The latest notification released by the university suggests colleges have been asked to offer grace marks to the students whenever required in consultation of lead colleges in their clusters. The grace marks will be offered only when a student passes after receiving it.

The grace marks that a college can offer is 1% of the total marks but not more than 5 marks per subject. Students who take part in extracurricular activities such as sports, cultural programs or any events are also eligible for receiving grace marks.

The power cut has impacted various industrial activities. Railway stations and airports are immensely affected by the power supply. 

The Energy Department has assured that the restoration of the power supply is underway and soon they will be able to restore power supply.
