Mumbai University to Offer Engineering Course in Marathi; Details Here


Mumbai University (MU) has received approval from AICTE to offer Engineering courses in Marathi. MU will also introduce the program in all of its affiliated colleges. 

Last month, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) approved the provision of offering engineering courses in eight regional languages including Marathi. In less than a month since the announcement was made, the Academic Council (AC) of University of Mumbai has given the approval to launch the program in Marathi in all its affiliated engineering colleges.

The academic council of the university has also decided to introduce subjects like Data Engineering, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, including Blockchain Technology and the Internet of Things among the existing ones, to fulfil the needs of industries.

Various radical changes will be experienced in teaching methods of engineering courses, stated an official statement released by the university. “AICTE has approved it, earlier this year but our faculty of science and technology departments have already been working to include newer subjects due to the newly emerging needs of industries," the statement included.

The academic council of the University of Mumbai has also given approval to the concept of "School" for the first time. This concept will help the students to opt for interdisciplinary subjects in a single course as subjects from different fields and departments will be made available under a single roof.

The Deputy Registrar of Public Relations, University of Mumbai, Leeladhar Bansod said, "The university will be introducing different schools including school of Indian languages; social sciences, English and foreign languages and performing arts, and the main objectives of all these schools is to provide interdisciplinary options under a single head. This step is a positive decision to give students more freedom in choosing their subjects from different departments and fields.”
