Nagpur University Begins Exams for 5k External Students; Read Details Here


Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has finally started conducting examinations of over 5,000 external students after a delay of almost eight months. Papers got delayed after several requests from aggravated students.

Nagpur University had made special arrangements for external students to appear for their examination. Affiliated colleges and universities like Annasaheb Gundwar, Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Dayanand Arya Kanya Vidyalaya, and Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences came forth to conduct the externalexams for these students.

Around 3,500 students are from BA courses, 700-800 from MA courses and few from students LLM courses expressed their concern for losing their academic year on September 15, 2020.

Pro-Vice-chancellor Sanjay Dudhe said that if affiliated colleges did not come forth for conducting backlog exams for external students then it would have taken 2 months to schedule the exams as per the students’ convenience. He trusts the colleges will be conducting the external exams successfully as they had conducted the final year exams.

After NU’s declaration of final year examination datesheet, external students requested them to conduct the examinations for them as well simultaneously. But NU refused to their pleas and the matter was sent to State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant accusing NU of deliberating wasting one academic year of external students.

In view of this, Board of Examinations and Evaluation (BOEE) director Prafulla Sable informed that Nagpur University had commenced their exams for external students from December 28, 2020 and recorded the filled exam forms from NU and other affiliated institutes for conducting exams.

NU Exam Section officials defended their decision for not holding exams of external students in October, 2020 as they lacked a 50:50 pattern in which practical components were mandatory for passing the subjects as per the directives informed by University's Task Committee for exams.

Therefore, external students could not be included in exam scheme for final year students. The varsity is planning to conduct the Summer 2020 examinations for backlog students through several modes.
