NLSIU Admission: Varsity rolls out own entrance test NLAT 2020, CLAT Scores Not Acceptable for 2020-21

National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore has made a significant move this year, stating that the university will not accept CLAT 2020 scores for admissions to law programs for the forthcoming academic year.

NLSIU will be conducting its own entrance examination, National Law Aptitude Test (NLAT) 2020. The entrance exam (NLAT 2020) will be conducted on September 12, 2020, as an online home-based test for admissions to BA, LL.B and LL.M programs.

The official notification reads, “Candidates will be selected on the basis of the aggregate marks secured in an online home-based Entrance Examination known as the National Law Aptitude Test, 2020 (NLAT).

The National Law Aptitude Test, 2020 will test applicants for admission to the undergraduate B.A., LL.B. (Hons) and postgraduate LL.M programmes commencing in 2020 at the National Law school of India University, Bengaluru (“NLSIU”) on subjects that correspond to the subjects proposed to be tested in the Common Law Admission Test, 2020.”

Why NLSIU Backs out of CLAT 2020?

NLSIU follows a trimester system for its academic sessions. With CLAT 2020 being postponed from September 7 to September 28, 2020, the university faces challenges in providing admission to students. Therefore, it adopted a separate test for a smoother induction.

In line with the aforementioned fact, the official notification by this premier law school of India also states if admissions are not held before September 2020, this will be regarded as a ‘Zero Year’. This entails, no aspiring law students will be admitted to NLSIU this year for BA, LLB and LLM courses for 2020-21 session.

NLSIU Bangalore Admission Procedure: How to apply for NLAT 2020?

NLSIU has opened an application window from September 3, 2020, that will be closed by midnight of September 10, 2020. As a fact, students have to apply online through the official website (https://admissions.nls.ac.in/).
