To the relief of students who are unable to attend online classes for the entire duration of this academic year, NLSIU has given the students an option of a gap year.

National Law School University has announced that this is the first time this option for a gap year has been implemented. However, this is only an exception, taking into consideration the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students will still have to complete the entire program in the existing maximum duration of 8 years. They will be given the option to take a gap within that stipulated duration.

The vice-chancellor Sudhir Krishnaswamy stated that it is still not known how many students will choose this option. The last day of submitting their choice is 15th August along with a fee of INR 2500.

The new batch of NLSIU has an intake of 120 this year as opposed to the previous years’ 80. With an increase in applicants for CLAT 2020, there has been a need to increase the seat intake. There is also a 5% increase in the tuition fee of the new batch.

The university was recently going through a tough financial year not having any funding from the state governments in the first quarter. There was a 75% reduction in the funding.
