NLU Delhi Professor Files Written Petition in the Delhi High Court over Selection Process for VC

NLU Delhi’s  Professor who had applied for the post of VC has filed a written petition in the Delhi High Court over the selection procedure of VC highlighting to be grossly illegal, arbitrary, unreasonable etc.

He has been a part of NLU Delhi since 2009. He joined here as an assistant professor and then became a full professor in 2015.

He stated that the application for the post of VC was made on 11th November 2019 but was not invited to the selection committee meeting on 5th February 2020.

He was not even informed about the interaction with the candidates which took place on 25th February 2020 nor was he provided with any communication or the letter defining any valid reason behind not inviting him to the interview despite meeting the requirements enshrined in the advertisement of October 2019.

It was also claimed that his fundamental rights were not respected so he was forced to file a written petition in Delhi High Court on 22nd June 2020 against the VC selection committee and NLU Delhi as well.

The Delhi High Court in its video conference hearing yesterday said that the petition was premature (see below), since the selection of the committee was with the chancellor at present, and disposed of the application, for the time being, declining to issue a stay.

However, the court noted that NLU Delhi’s registrar should forward the Prasannanshu’s “representation before the Chancellor for consideration”.
