Osmania University receives INR 10 Crore from DBT as a Part of BUILDER program for the next 5 years


Osmania University has been granted a sum of INR 10 Crore by the Department of Biotechnology under the ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India as part of BUILDER(Boost to University Interdisciplinary Life Education & Research) program.

The grant has been provided to the Life Sciences Depatment of Osmania University for the span of five years.

The BUILDER program is expected to enhance the infrastructure and equipment and to indulge the practice of interdisciplinary teaching and research.

About three months back, the following Osmania University Departments: botany, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, zoology and research centres: Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Institute of Genetics had jointly applied for this BUILDER funding.

Prof. Pratap Reddy, Principal, University College of OU said that the amount of INR 6 Crore will be spent on developing the labs and purchase of high power computer attributed equipment involved in genomics and mass spectroscopy, while the remaining 4 Crores will be utilized to enhance the research studies in field like genomics, therapeutics and nanotechnology for medical and industrial expertise.

As a part of the infrastructural boost, OU is set to upgrade central facilities like animal house, genomics, green house etc.

It is being expected that the DBT-BUILDER augmented infrastructure will benefit more than 400 students from the postgraduate as well as research programs and will also enhance the research and development output of the Life Sciences departments.
