Osmania University Released Anti-Plagiarism Norms For Ph.D. Candidates; Read Full Report Here


November 08, 2020: Osmania University has adopted Anti Plagiarism norms for Ph.D. thesis submission and academic research publication from November 1. As per the Anti Plagiarism norms, research publications having over 10 percent plagiarism will now face strict penalties.

In 2018, Osmania University became the first university in Telangana State that accepted the anti-plagiarism software to raise the bar for Ph.D. research submission for candidates.

By 2020, the university has recorded a permissible similarity of 25 percent in thesis submission. OU has received and checked more than 900 theses for verification to date. 

Every year, Osmania University receives a total of 200 of 900 PhDs submission. The university faces paganism of content up to 50% in the research work of Ph.D. candidates, while the similarity index has been recorded up to 70 to 90 percent in thesis and submissions work.

Osmania University Anti-Plagiarism Norms Highlights

As per the approval of the University Grant Commission's academic integrity and plagiarism prevention in Higher education institute regulation 2018, the university has issued the following instructions to students: 

  • As per the Anti Plagiarism norm, the university will not accept research and thesis with more than 10 percent plagiarism. 
  • Candidates with up to 10% plagiarism report in their thesis and research work will face no penalties.
  • With more than 10 plagiarism, candidates will be asked to withdraw their manuscript and re-work their submitted thesis. 
  • On Level 2 and 3 candidates will face cancellation of registration and higher penalties.
  • Candidates will not be able to submit their thesis and research work with more than 10 percent plagiarism report. 
  • The anti-plagiarism norms will be strictly followed from November 01, 2020, for Ph.D. candidates. 

Along with candidates, faculty members will have to follow the same anti-plagiarism pattern that has been regulated in Osmania Affiliated universities in the states. 

Reports and work with more than 40% plagiarism will get denied and faculty members will have to face the penalties as mentioned in anti-plagiarism norms.

Professor D Ravinder, Principal of Arts college, stated that students of the university have submitted reports and content of literature with more plagiarism than accepted. 

The new regulations for anti-plagiarism will now put an end to the copying of content from sources in the university activity work submission.

He further added that the anti-plagiarism software will now be updated as per the new regulations enforced by Osmania University. The anti-plagiarism norm will not include the work of bibliography, generic terms, and quoted words as per the UGC norms. 

Assistant Coordinator of Anti Plagiarism Activities, AS Chakravarthy, said, “Until now, we used to verify each and every document of the submitted research document. But now, we will be randomly verifying parts of documents in order to check the similarity percentage".
