Panjab University Dental College to Resume Classes from January 15 for Final-Year UG Students; Check Details Here


Panjab University Dental College: Punjab University’s Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences has urged its final-year undergraduate students to join the institute from January 15, 2021. 

The matter of resuming classes for final-year UG students was discussed during a meeting conducted recently for the heads of departments (HODs) of the Panjab University dental college.

Earlier, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had asked state governments and UT administrations across the country to take steps to reopen dental colleges by January 04. Following similar suggestions by the Dental Council of India (DCI), the decision to resume classes was taken.

A faculty member of the institute on the condition of anonymity stated that the institute is not fully prepared and will take some time to completely start functioning. In a meeting, the officials agreed that patient registrations should now be capped at 50 per day. 

However, the university asked final year UG students to compulsorily carry their RT-PCR test when they return back to the campus. The final decision to call the remaining students back to the campus will be taken after examining the situation on January 25.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Panjab University Sets Class Resumption Regulations

Class timing has been set to be from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Each department head can depute 50% of the faculty for academic purposes and 50% for clinical work. However, the hostel facilities are currently available only for research scholars who have completed two years of enrolment. Other students will not be provided with the hostel facility on campus. 

With the motive of reopening colleges in a phased manner, Panjab University’s Institute of Dental Sciences had already reopened the Institute for the faculty members from January 05, and for postgraduate students from January 06, 2021. 

As per the DCI issued guidelines, the college authorities may reopen the campuses in a phased manner with insurance of the health, safety, and well-being of students & faculty. The guideline further states that the institute should be equipped to handle any kind of incident due to COVID-19. 

The guidelines mandate the use of face masks and physical distancing of six feet. The students, faculty members, paramedical staff, and other supporting staff must be trained in methods to prevent the transmission of the Virus.
