The officials of Jamia Millia Islamia have notified on Wednesday that the PhD admissions have been delayed by a year owing to the current covid-19 pandemic circumstances across the country.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Jamia Millia Islamia University issued a notification for the PhD entrance exams for the year 2020-21 instead of the current academic session 2021-22. Further, it has been notified that the entrance test will be conducted for various streams from June 22 to 28, 2021 in two shifts. The results for the same will be out in the second week of July 2021.
The Controller of Examinations, Dr Nazim Hussain Jafri said that the reason for the delay is pandemic and without conducting an entrance test, admissions to PhD programmes will not be possible. Also, there were only 25 seats available at JMI.
Further, the master's results were delayed which affected the admission process. The varsity had decided the exam dates but couldn't conduct the exams due to the second wave of covid-19, he added.
The Jamia Teachers’ Association (JTA) of the varsity said that it had been raising the issue and due to continuous efforts of the JTA members, the notification has been released.
Owing to the pandemic covid-19 circumstances, the admission test was cancelled twice. Earlier, it was scheduled to be conducted in April 2020 which could not happen due to the lockdown and it was again scheduled in October. But again it was postponed due to the situation, said the JTA.

The JTA also added that the varsity could have conducted the PhD admissions when they did admissions for other courses. As the PhD admissions are done only after UG and PG admissions, it is conducted late. But the JTA has decided to demand the varsity to conduct the PhD admissions for the academic year 2021-22 in the month of August-September 2021, the JTA concluded.
