Savitribai Phule Pune University’s (SPPU) has introduced a new postgraduate diploma in Defence Technology for the current academic year 2021-22. 

The postgraduate diploma in Defence Tech has been started by the department of defence and strategic studies and the Institute of Defence Scientists and Technologists (IDST), SPPU. 

This is the first time in the history of SPPU, a postgraduate diploma course in Defence Technology has been introduced. The course will commence from this academic year. Interested candidates can go through the program brochure and apply online till December 28, 2021.

SPPU Postgraduate Diploma in Defence Technology: Highlights 

The duration of the postgraduate diploma in Defence Technology is for a year, where the participants will study about the design, development and production of all major technology-related equipment in the field of defence. 

Besides, the course will focus on imparting education related to weapons, ammunition, missile systems, bridge design, communication systems, space systems, naval ships, land and sea mines.

The subject experts in related fields will visit the university as guest professors and deliver the courses. Participants of the course will be required to visit various laboratories. The Defence Technology course consists of 30 credits and is open for candidates from science or engineering background. However, they'll be selected on a first come, first served basis. 

Speaking about the course, Vijay Khare Head of SPPU Department of Defence and Strategic Studies said that the country is emerging as a self-reliant in the defence sector, where new employment opportunities are being created. 

Further, the course will make the participants aware of the basics in the defence technology field and will enable them to conduct research and innovation in the future.
