In the light of the coronavirus pandemic, the entrance examination for five years and three years of law courses at the Panjab University was cancelled. Earlier, the admission process for B.Com / BA LLB was suspended, but the varsity finally decided to drop the examination for the 2020-2021 academic session.

Panjab University cancelled the entrance exam for UG and PG level law courses in the context of the spread of coronavirus pandemics across the nation.

After a statement by the High Court to reconsider the decision, the university was in the loggerheads, but after reviewing the total number of applications, fewer entrance examination centres and high risk due to COVID-19, PU decided to cancel the 2020-2021 exam.

Previously, the University of Panjab had temporarily suspended the B.Com LLB and BA LLB admissions process.

The admission process was interrupted following the decision to cancel the PU UG LAW entrance examination 2020 in the midst of a nationwide coronavirus outbreak.

Some candidates expressed their disagreement with the decision by filing a petition against it and reached the High Court of Punjab and Haryana.

Following the petition, the court asked the University of Panjab to reconsider its decision to cancel the examination.

A notification was issued by the university on 4 September 2020 to address this issue. Read Notification here

The notice stated that the Varsity had decided to suspend admission to the B.Com LLB and BA LLB courses until further notice in accordance with the instructions of the Hon'ble High Court.

As per the latest notification, the PU has finally decided not to take an entrance exam for the 2020-2021 academic session due to the high risk of the virus and the lack of a multiplicity of entrance test centres.

The petition filed on 1 September 2020 raised questions about the decision of the University of Panjab to cancel the 5-year law entrance exam.

It stated that the institute is conducting entrance examinations for a 3-year law course for the same academic session, which makes it invalid to cancel the examination for an integrated law course.

The petition also added that the sole criterion for admission to the 5-year law course is unreasonably and unreliable given the result of class 12.

After taking all the accounts and concerns into account, the University of Panjab has finally decided to cancel the 2020-2021 entrance exam.

The decision was taken in the light of the safety / precautionary measures taken as a result of the COVID pandemic and the interest of students in general.

The revised admission procedure for BCom / BA LLB admissions has been shared by the university on the official website.

Applicants may apply for PU BA LLB / BCom LLB courses until 21 September 2020. The last application date for the PU LLB is 1 October 2020.

Many of the exams have been affected by the national spread of COVID-19, and PU UG LAW is one of them.
