QS World University Rankings (Sustainability) Lists IIT Bombay, Delhi, and JNU as India's most Sustainable Institutions


New Delhi: According to the first-ever QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, which were published today, IIT-Bombay is the greatest educational institution in India, followed by IIT Delhi and JNU, Delhi.

In the list of the QS World University Rankings (Sustainability), a total of 15 Indian universities has been ranked, with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) featuring in the 281-300 rank range, followed by the IIT-Delhi (321-340 rank), and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) being ranked third at (361-380).

The QS World University Rankings: Sustainability Ranking is a new methodology for assessing how institutions are responding to the most urgent environmental and social problems in the world.

This year, approximately 1300 higher education institutions that met specified eligibility standards were examined by experts, and a total of 700 of those universities made it to the ranking list.

The University of Delhi (DU), which falls within the 381-400 rank range, has been given fourth rank, and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), is ranked on the fifth spot (451-500). 

IIT Roorkee, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jadavpur University e32esqw, Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS Pilani), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), and Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) are some of the others institutions of higher learning from India that were featured in the list. 

In terms of sustainability, the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) has taken the lead globally because of its excellent ratings in the Environmental Impact and Social Impact categories, which each contribute 50% of the overall score. 

The University of Toronto (second) and the University of British Columbia (UNBC) are the next two Canadian institutions (third) that were included in the rankings list. 

Some of the other universities that appeared in the top 10 are University of Edinburgh, University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney), University of Sydney, which ranks fifth, University of Tokyo, University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), Yale University, and the University of Auckland (UOA)

With 135 ranked universities (19.2% of the total), the US dominates the rankings and the United Kingdom is the second-most represented nation, with 67 ranked universities (9.5 per cent). 

Meanwhile, Germany is ranked as the third-best overall in terms of representation with 39 universities, followed by China with 37 and Australia with 33.
