SIU established a dedicated Symbiosis Medical College for Women

Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, has set up a dedicated Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW) in order to take a step forward in creating awareness regarding women's empowerment.

The newly set up medical college is situated at Symbiosis International (Deemed University) campus at Gram Lavale, Pune. Prof. Dr. SB Mujumdar, Chancellor of Symbiosis International University, is the founder of SMCW.

The institute would focus on contributing more female doctors to society. One of the prime objectives of the institute is to contribute to India's growing healthcare system by providing optimum healthcare services to everyone.

While talking about the establishment, Prof. Dr. SB Mujumdar stated, “Establishment of Symbiosis Medical College for Women has been one of the greatest milestones that we have achieved so far. High-quality medical education is a powerful tool in establishing a strong healthcare system, and we are glad to have done our bit in contributing to the same.”

“The idea of launching an exclusive medical college was deeply inspired by the biographic movie about India's first lady doctor, Dr. Anandibai Joshi. We can now strongly emphasize on our long-held commitment to providing best in class medical education to women and produce caring, compassionate, and ethical lady doctors,” he added.

SMCW has an annual intake of only 150 women students. Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Center (SUHRC) and SMCW are the constituents of SIU. They both maintain the standards and quality required by an A++ accredited University.

Symbiosis Medical College for Women, SUHRC Facilities

The teaching hospital SUHRC, affiliated with SMCW, is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The facilities and services offered at SMCW and SUHRC are as follows;

• 128 slice CT
• 3 Tesla MRI 
• Dialysis 
• Endoscopy
• Cath lab Unit 
• Residences for staff

SMCW has renowned faculty members across the country. Some of them are also awarded international certificates. 

Further, the hospital has a capacity of 600 beds to offer quality medical services to over 800-1000 patients per day. Their utmost priority is to treat medical ethics with transparency.

SMCW Scholarship Program

SMCW has also formed a scholarship program called Dr. Anandi Gopal Scholarship Scheme to support meritorious girl students financially. Under the scholarship program, the top 5 girls who qualify through NEET and wish to take admission at SMCW will get a 100 percent academic fee waiver.
