SPPU to Launch Online Platform ‘Degree Plus’ to offer Free Certificate Courses; Read Full Report Here

SPPU Free Certificate Course 2021: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is now all prepared to launch its own online education platform called ‘Degree Plus’ in order to offer free online certificate courses to students during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. 

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) online education platform “Degree Plus” is designed to offer about 500 certificate courses in various domains to students of the university. The platform is expected to launch in the month September 2021. 

With the increase of COVID-19 cases in the country, the education mode has adapted online means in order to offer education to students. In order to offer various certificate courses to students, the university has decided to adopt an online education platform.

Referring to the initiative, SPPU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar stated that the journey of offering courses through online means began when he was speaking to a few education tech companies regarding making a few diploma courses of the university available online. 

“During the lockdown, we realised that acceptance of online courses was finally picking up. Today, a pure graduation in one subject isn’t enough, students need to pick up several skills and certificates to increase employability and besides that, why not study subjects that they are interested in?".

"That’s why I thought of speaking to online course platforms but I realised that the fees which these platforms charge can be exorbitant… Being a state-funded public university, we have to be inclusive and sensitive to all sections of society, especially students from economically weaker sections. We couldn’t expect them to pay such high fees,” he added. 

Pune University Courses and Fees

In the meantime, Savitribai Phule Pune University has also taken an initiative to develop various short-term courses which will be offered through online means to all interested university students. 

Savitribai Phule Pune University short-term courses have been developed as a part of industry partnerships, and tie-ups with government bodies such as AYUSH. 

Talking about the launch of Degree Plus, Dr. Nitin Karmalkar said, “It should happen soon… we are finishing up some formalities. But from this academic year, students will be able to enroll in these courses online through Degree Plus”.
