New Delhi: A proud moment for SVKM's NMIMS Shobhaben Pratapbhai Patel School of Pharmacy & Technology Management (SPPSPTM), when Associate Professor Dr. Sarika Wairkar received Indian Patent No. 408059 for her research project on "Topical Foam Composition Comprising Mupirocin."
According to Dr. Sarika Wairkar, Associate Professor, SPPSPTM, NMIMS, "This formulation was designed considering severe pain and infection of critical wounds, especially burn wounds where application of medicine is a difficult task. As a result, this formulation may substantially help in management of chronic wounds."
Dr. Bala Prabhakar, Dean of SPPSTM, congratulated Dr. Sarika Wairkar on receiving the patent and spoke about the school's ongoing commitment to groundbreaking research. "We have always pushed our professors to conduct studies that have an impact on the pharmaceutical sector and the nation's general healthcare system. Dr. Sarika Wairkar's idea will greatly streamline the treatment of burn wounds. I wish her luck and anticipate more groundbreaking studies from the NMIMS School of Pharmacy.

This invention relates to the topical antibiotic Mupirocin in its foam form, which is frequently applied to burn burns and severe skin lesions. Mupirocin is now sold as a cream formulation that must be administered directly to the skin or wound area.
She has created a topical Mupirocin foam that is quick to collapse, easily spreads, and has higher antibacterial effectiveness. Without touching the wound, it is readily administered to the required location.
It has been determined through the successful completion of clinical trials that this cutting-edge formulation can be used in place of the traditional topical dosing form.
