Supreme Court Rejected the plea to Cancel CLAT 2020; Check Details Here

In response to the plea of candidates asking for cancellation of CLAT 2020, the Supreme Court today refused to cancel the exam or stay the counselling process. The petitioners can submit their grievances within two days from today, informed the Court.

A senior lawyer PS Narasimha informed a bench of justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah, that there is a grievance redressal committee headed by former Chief Justice of India which can consider the issues of the petitioners. The committee will look into the matter and can make a decision on their complaints regarding CLAT 2020.

The petitioners advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan told the bench of justice that there were technical issues faced while appearing for CLAT 2020. The exam was conducted online and certain questions were not even correct. He further informed the court that answers were also not recorded correctly and there are a total of 40,000 objections received with respect to the CLAT 2020 online examination. The bench of justice responded saying that the CLAT 2020 Counselling cannot be stopped.

The consortium of NLUs has not responded to around 19,000 objections. Sankaranarayanan also added that there has been a software defect that never happened in the history of the CLAT examination.

Petitioners Advocate Sankaranarayanan said, "For the first time, only 3% students have crossed the 50% marks out of total 150 marks." 

Lawyer Marasimha opposed the petitioner's plea and said that the counselling cannot be cancelled during a pandemic. He also informed that head of the ombudsman, CJI Rajendra Babu will look into the serious complaints and take any appropriate move ahead. 

However, Narasimha believes that unnecessary complaints have been raised. A lot of candidates raised objection on the 146th and 150th questions. The authorities have decided to drop these questions as per the expert recommendation.

Earlier on September 21, the apex court discarded the NLSIU Bengaluru's notification for conducting separate entrance exam, NLAT for admission into 5 year integrated law course. The court directed the authorities to admit candidates on the basis of CLAT 2020 only.
