SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) has appointed Dr Ramesh Bhat as the new VC of the institute on December 17, 2020. He was previously the Dean and Provost, at School of Business Management, NMIMS since 2017 and the University's Officiating Vice Chancellor since March 2020.
Speaking on his appointment as VC at NMIMS, Dr. Ramesh Bhat said, "I look forward to working with our esteemed faculty, our hard-working staff, and our student body to maintain NMIMS' commitment towards academic brilliance. We will further strengthen our research-based approach as our focus shifts towards the timely implementation of the National Educational Policy."

Dr Bhat is a distinguished academician and educator. He has been at the help of leading academic excellence in management education. Dr Bhat is an alumnus of Harvard University and the Delhi School of Economics and has worked in the top management schools of the country.
Before working at NMIMS, he had worked as the Professor of Finance at IIM Ahmedabad from 1986 to 2008 and 2014 to 2016. At IIM Ahmedabad, he headed the Management Development Program. In addition, he had served on adjunct and visiting faculty positions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill, IIM Udaipur and ISB Hyderabad.

He has also worked at Shri Ram College of Commerce and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Other than his academic career, Dr Bhat has been a part of many national level policy making committees.
He was a member of various committees of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Planning Commission and also worked as an Advisor to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Other than that he had worked on many short-term consulting projects with the USAID New Delhi, ADB, European Commission, CDC India and the WHO as well as long-term consulting assignments with DFID New Delhi, Royal Netherlands Embassy India and Abt Associates India.
Dr Bhat was also an independent director at ITI Ltd, Corporation Bank, Ahmedabad Stock Exchange, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), BEML, and many other companies. Between 2009 and 2014 he was the Executive Chairman of WOne Management Systems, a company which he co-founded.
Right now, Dr Bhat is also a board member of Basic Healthcare which is a NPO that works to improve healthcare in rural areas. As for his academic qualifications, he has a Bachelor's Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance from Hans Raj College, University of Delhi and a Ph.D. and Master's Degree in Finance from Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi.
Dr. Bhat has written many academic papers and journals. He has served as a member of the editorial boards for Journal of Insurance and Risk Management, Journal of Health and Population in Developing Countries, Health Policy and Planning and Journal of Health Management.
In 2020, the 4th edition of his book A Casebook in Financial Management which he co authored with Prof IM Pandey was published by McGraw Hill Education.
