The Young University Rankings 2022: JSS, IIT Ropar, IIT Indore among the Top 100 in the World


New Delhi: Three Indian Institutions have ranked among the top 100 young universities in the ‘Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2022’. JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research has been ranked as the best in India followed by the IIT Ropar and IIT Indore among the top 100 institutes. 

Launched by ‘Times Higher Education’ in 2012, ‘Young University Rankings 2022’ assesses the best universities from the world that are 50 years old or younger. 

In 2021, the IIT Roper, secured the top position in India but this year JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, has outdone it. 

Unlike 34 universities ranked in 2021, approximately 40 universities have been ranked this year. For the first time, a French University is topping the list. Paris Sciences et Lettres- PSL Research University, Paris, has overtaken Nanyang Technological University as the best young university in the world. 

As per the list, with 40 institutions each, India and Turkey overtake the UK to become the most represented countries. The UK with37 universities, shares third position with Iran. 

Among the Indian universities, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research has secured 70th position with a score of 50.01. IIT Roper and IIT Indore have ranked 81 and 86 respectively. 

Additionally, Alagappa University has ranked 138, IIT Gandhinagar 140, Mahatma Gandhi University 40 and Saveetha University has ranked 166. 

Along with the new generation IITs in India, some of the other prominent universities that have featured in the list are Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, IISER Kolkata, IIIT Hyderabad, Anna University, Bharathiar University, IIT Patna, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, KIIT University, Veltech University, Jamia Hamdard University and Pondicherry University.

The universities are assessed on the basis of their missions, visions, teaching methodology, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, to provide a balanced perspective. The 2022 ranking includes 539 universities.
