TS CETs 2020 Postponed: Telangana High Court Defers All-State Common Entrance Tests

30 June 2020: Telangana High Court today directed State Common Entrance Tests conducting bodies to postpone exams considering the present pandemic situation. As a fact, soon after the state government filed an affidavit, TS EAMCET, PGECET, ECET, LAWCET, ICET and PGLCET were postponed. 

Earlier, the official schedule claimed Telangana CET 2020 including TS PECET and TS Polycet were to be conducted on Wednesday, July 1, 2020.

Before this, HC had asked for directions from the state government on holding a common entrance examination amid the lockdown.

Early today, the court was hearing PIL (Public Interest Litigation) by NSUI (National Students’ Union of India). The PIL was filed seeking to postpone entrance exams like CET for degree programs and engineering in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The court’s orders are in-line with the fact that when the state is under strict lockdown, conducting exams will lead to violation of lockdown rules. 

Of late, TSCHE clarified that parents and faculty equally wished the exams to take place. Additionally, cancelling such exams can affect admission to colleges and universities, hence deferring, for the time being, is the probable solution to meet both ends.

Earlier it was slated to begin admissions processes for degree courses from July. 

Telangana Common Entrance Tests Hall Tickets Postponed 

Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has pushed all these events pertaining to the release of admit cards until further notice. 

TS EAMCET 2020 hall tickets were supposed to come out by today. This year, JNTU Hyderabad will conduct TS EAMCET (Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test).

TS EAMCET 2020 was scheduled to be held on 4 May 2020 which was subjected to delay in view of nationwide lockdown at the onset of the pandemic in India. Post which, new dates for the exams were notched for 6-9 July 2020 maintaining all social distancing norms. About 145,000 students registered for engineering and 75,000 students for medical or agriculture streams to appear in TS EAMCET across 94 centres in the state. 

Taking a cue from the current directions from Telangana HC, conducting these state-level entrance exams seem precarious.
