UGC Releases Draft Guidelines on Preparing IDP for Universities as Part of NEP 2020: Details Here


New Delhi: University Grants Commission has recently released a list of draft guidelines on preparing an Institutional Development Plan, IDP for its approved universities and colleges. The IDP will be prepared as a part of the National Education Policy, or NEP 2020 implementation.

Under the draft guidelines released for college, institutes, and university development, the UGC had made recommendations based on National Education Policy 2020. The draft includes instructions on overall on-campus development and enhancement of institutional infrastructure.

With the release of the proposed framework, the Higher Education regulators have requested the stakeholders and institutes to submit their feedback on the draft by February 11, 2022. Based on the suggestions made, the final guidelines on IDP will be released by the UGC. 

The proposed framework directs institutes to develop an institutional development plan based on their human resources requirements. The draft should include the requirements of the institute, such as staff shortages, physical infrastructure, technology requirements, etc.

The action plan proposed by the draft guideline of the Union Grants Commission will help the institutes in upgrading their academic facilities and converting their higher education institutes to large multi-disciplinary institutions. 

Following the Institutional Development Plan reconditions, the UGC-approved institutes will be able to upgrade their education facilities and provide quality education to students. Under the plan, the institutes will have video-based classes and infrastructure for blended learning modes.

As per UGC, the financial support for the implementation of IDP will only be provided to selected universities to improve their academic facilities. The selection of institutes and colleges will be carried out by the Higher Education Council of India (HECI).

HECI will be established to replace UGC and will be responsible for financing higher education based on their transparent criteria, and IDPs prepared by the institutions. The council will further manage the disbursement of scholarships and developmental funds for new initiatives. 

Earlier, the UGC has released the Revised Guidelines for awarding NFSC Fellowship for MPhil, Ph.D. Students. The guidelines have been released on the official website of the commission, at ugc.ac.in on January 27, 2022.

Students who are now pursuing M.Phil or Ph.D. education and wish to apply for the NFSC Fellowship program are requested to go through the revised guidelines released by the commission. The guidelines will be effective from November 25, 2021, for all students.
