Savitribai Phule Pune University, alias Unipune Doha Campus has finally started offline classes for a total of 72 students in its first batch, almost after two years of signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The first Indian university to start a campus in Doha, Qatar, Unipune started its first academic year, earlier, this month, by commencing offline classes for 72 students from different parts of the world.
SPPU has collaborated with the Milestone International Education (MIE) licensed by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar to establish the MIE SPPU Institute of Higher Education.

Dr. Khalid Abdullah Al Ali, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said that there are Arabic and English private universities, but SPPU will be the first Indian University that will serve more students.
He added that the commencement of the university campus got delayed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic circumstances across the world. However, all the students will receive higher education as a part of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The institute will offer a total of 5 academic programmes initially. Bimalendu Nath, Director of MIE SPPU Institute of Higher Education said that despite the fact that a huge number of Indians reside in Qatar, there are only 16 Indian schools that offer higher education.
The institute offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Science.
Further, the SPPU campus started its offline classes from September 15, where induction and orientation programmes were conducted initially. The actual lectures started online on October 3, whereas the offline classes started from October 17, he added.

Talking about the courses offered at SPPU campus, he said that these courses have been designed with a global approach and each course is for a duration of 4 years. During the initial days, the fundamental subjects will be taught to the students.
The idea is to make the students understand the basics, and let them decide their field of specializations. Today's fast-paced world doesn't believe in compartmentalizing education. As a result, the syllabus has been modified to accommodate the future changes, he concluded.
Out of the total 10 faculty posts, 9 have been filled and they're from different parts of the world. Even the gender ratio of students favors girls.
According to the reports, three more private universities will be established in Qatar that will provide more options to the students to select the programmes of their choice under the five-year plan of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
