Unipune to Begin Four-year Undergraduate Programs from Academic Year 2022-23


New Delhi: Savitribai Phule Pune University (Unipune) will begin admission for a four-year undergraduate programme from the upcoming academic session 2022-2023.

Vice-chancellor of UnipuneProfessor Nitin Karmalkar said “We will introduce the new curriculum for four years undergraduate courses at the university campus with liberal arts and blended Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) programme from the academic year 2022-23. 

We are working on the syllabus which will be decided as per the guidelines given in the New Education Policy (NEP). The new FYUP programme will help students in research and further studies while also pursuing a PhD”.

Earlier, the Union Education Ministry informed it was in talks with concerned stakeholders to implement the Four-Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) in all central universities in the country. 

Following which, the Union Education Minister asked for opinions from VCs of central universities. FYUP will now start in all 45 central universities of India on 3- and 4-year graduation and 2-year PG postgraduate program. 

Details about Unipune FYUP Program 2022

  • The programme is of 4 years duration, divided into eight semesters.
  • Students will require 160-176 credits to complete the degree. 
  • ‘Common’ and ‘introductory’ courses in natural sciences, humanities and social science will be made available to students in the first three semesters. 
  • In the fourth semester, students have to declare one ‘major’ subject and two ‘minor’ disciplinary or interdisciplinary areas of study.
  • After 1st year, students will be awarded a Certificate and after the conclusion of 2nd year, a Diploma Certificate.
  •  Bachelor's degree will be awarded to students after the completion of the third year. 
  • At the end and completion of the fourth year, students will get a bachelor's degree with honors or research. 

Mentioning about enforcement of the course in the affiliated colleges of SPPU, Professor Nitin Karmalkar said, “We will hold a three-day seminar of all the principals of colleges on ‘Implementation of NEP’ in which we will discuss the four-year programmes too. 

We will introduce it at the university campus, but for affiliated colleges to take up the programme it is necessary to understand the course.”

Meanwhile, Unipune has started admissions for international students for its existing courses. The university already offers many UG, PG, PhD, PG Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate courses in different fields and is all set to introduce a new four-year undergraduate programme.
