Universities Suggest Two Models for Holding Exams

On Thursday, universities discussed a number of propositions on the question of holding examinations and promoting students during a review meeting held in Hyderabad.

The Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy had asked for ideas from all university and higher education department officials on university examinations. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) proposed two models for the examinations of undergraduate and postgraduate students in their final year.

The first model suggests that the examination be conducted in two phases. Students may choose to take the examination at the nearest location of their choice either in the first phase or in the second phase that will be conducted 45 days after the first.

In the second model, students will be promoted on the basis of internal marks and performance in the previous examinations. Those who opt for neither model can take a special examination. There will be relaxation for the students and their examinations will be held at a later stage.

Osmania University suggested a similar model and said they had no hesitation in following the guidelines of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education

“Just like JNTUH, even we proposed to promote students based on internal exams and/or previous examinations. As per TSCHE guidelines, we are ready to relax examination timing and necessary modifications in the exam pattern,” said the Registrar of Osmania University.
