University of Calicut Offers Home-Based Education Program for Students With Special Needs; Check Details Here


The University of Calicut, Kerala has introduced a new home-based program that will benefit the children identified under Persons with Disability (PwD) as a part of the Community Disability Management and Rehabilitation Program (CDMRP).

The Department of Psychology will manage the program in an integrated telerehabilitation mode in association with professionals from different sectors who will provide counselling, support, and lectures to the students.

The University of Calicut will also be providing the students with Teaching Learning Material (TLM) kits to promote their learning and reading abilities along with speech, concentration, social, and academic skills. 

Along with the TLM kits, watches, calculators, and mobile phones were also provided to older students. Around 1876 kits with almost 22 modules each have been distributed so far by the University of Calicut.

Under the CDMRP, the University with the help of Kerala government departments will ensure the rehabilitation of special needs children by providing offline and online education material, life skills training, home-based horticulture therapy, helpline numbers, mobile phones with learning support application as well as manuals for parents.

CDMRP with the help of UNESCO has published a guide called, “Life in the Times of Covid-19- A Guide for Parents of Children with Disabilities ” which also addresses the mental health of the child’s caregivers including parents and hospital staff.

This program from the University of Calicut has also conducted more than 15 programs highlighting the needs of special students and published parental guidelines. In addition to this, more than 55 home training video tutorials were also released for the parents of children with special needs.
