Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), Allahabad to open study centres in state universities and affiliated colleges, says UP Governor to promote distance education in the state. On November 18, 2020, the proposal was set forth in the meeting held in Raj Bhawan in front of Chancellor Anandiben Patel.

UPRTOU vice-chancellor Prof Kameshwar Nath Singh explained that UPRTOU is the only state open university and students should be able to study in the university if all the state universities came together to open study centres.

The university registrar Prof GS Shukla, also took the decision to write a letter to Raj Bhawan stating that Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) is running study centres all over the state via all the state universities but there is no interest from state universities on opening a study centre of UPRTOU which is the only open state university in Uttar Pradesh.

He further said that it is quite the opposite initiative from the state universities to turn their back towards UPRTOU. As per the Union Ministry of Education’s objective, UPRTOU is to generate the enrolment ratio in higher education to 50% by the year 2030 but without the help of state universities, it cannot be achieved.

Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur and University of Lucknow (LU), are run by state universities on their premises and that is expected for UPRTOU as well. After this request, the chancellor has formally asked all the vice-chancellors of all state universities to do as required.

An application is to be submitted by a university/college concerned through UPRTOU’s official website uprtou.ac.in. for establishing the study centre.

Regarding this, the Chancellor’s officer on special duty Keyur C Sampath has sent out a request to all the state universities to open a study centre in their premises dedicated to UPRTOU in this academic year. The same has been asked to the colleges affiliated with the university to promote distance education.
