Without Awaiting HC Decision JNTU Plans to Conduct Final Year Exams from Sept 16

Despite the decision being pending in the Telangana High Court, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University has planned to conduct final year Engineering and Pharmacy Examinations from September 16, 2020.

The letter issued by the Director of Evaluation at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) reads, "It is proposed to conduct the fourth year second semester exams of B.Tech and B.Pharm from September 16, 2020. The detailed time table will be released shortly."

All the universities have to complete the examinations before September 30, as per the directives of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Prasad said that these points were put in front of the high court, in response to which the supreme court instructed the institute to comply with UGC's guidelines.

Clarifying the matter being at sub-judice, Prasad asserted that JNTU will have to make arrangements for examinations, whether HC rejects or approves the move being taken.

There are around 35.000 students in the final year engineering and pharmacy courses, canceling the exams will affect the future of all these students. JNTU is planning to conduct the exams in a staggered manner following all the safety measures and without risking the lives of the students.

However this move has been questioned by many students and the petitioner Venkat Balmoori said, "The decision on conducting examinations is still pending in the HC, How can they take such a decision on their own? We demand the University to withdraw the circular immediately."

On the flip side, Prasad conveyed that the University cannot conduct exams just the next day of the court's decision. It's easy to cancel at the last minute rather than conducting the exams at the last moment.
