There are lots of students who appear for IIM interview and clear it with full confidence and potential. Here is one such example of a student who got admitted to IIM Ahmedabad. Below is her profile for your reference.

Percentage in Xth: 94.6%

Percentage in XIIth: 80.8 %

Percentage in Graduation (Delhi College of Engineering, B.Tech): 73.52 %

CAT Percentile: 99.90

Work Experience: Nil

Students also have to give Academic Writing Text on any given subject.

The interview goes for around 15 to 20 minutes and there are generally 2 interviewers to take your interview. Firstly, they ask you about yourself and try to know about your visions, perceptions, experience, and so on. They mainly ask you general questions related to your academics as well as your surrounding to analyze your presence of mind and knowledge regarding any specific subject.

They are interested to know about your capabilities, strengths, weaknesses, and where your opinions stand. Students are asked about the most recent hotly debated topics or issues to understand their grip over current affairs.

IIMs seek out positive people who are eager to learn and have a basic understanding of any situation. It is not necessary to be a master of everything, superb academics and extracurriculars in order to succeed, though grades are important. You simply need to demonstrate your ability to think to the interviewer.

One of my friends was shortlisted for the IIM Calcutta interview a few years back. Here is his experience in brief.

  • Marks scored in 10th - 89%
  • Marks scored in 12th - 89%
  • Graduation percentage - 69%
  • CAT’19 - 99.83%

WAT: The Topic for WAT was ‘Unemployment due to economic slowdown’.

Personal Interview: There were 3 panelists on the interview board. My friend was the first interviewee in his panel.

  • The interviewers glanced at the certificates and questioned his low percentage in B.Tech. My friend talked about his involvement in various extracurricular activities and the responsibilities involved.
  • The second question was - ‘Why IIM Calcutta?’. He talked about his experience of taking CAT at IIM Calcutta and how the campus and its vibe made an impact on him.
  • Next, he was asked why he should be selected at this institute, given his low percentage in graduation. He repeated a bit from his first answer and also added how he acquired managerial skills through his other responsibilities.
  • The panelists then asked in detail his responsibilities as an Account and Finance head in the Fests during his graduation.
  • After that, he was asked whether he got any placement opportunities.

The interview concluded with a few questions about current affairs and his hobbies. They also asked about the internship he did in Market Research and Business Development.
