UAE launches Residence Schemes and Visa Policies to rope in foreign talent

UAE (United Arab Emirates) recently implemented an array of policies and regulations related to entry and residence of foreigners in order to attract and retain more skilled workers from around the world. Apart from that, these policies were designed to boost competitivness and flexibility in tourism, education and other sectors.

These schemes and policies have been discussed in detail below.

Entry Permit for Study and Training

This permit is targeted towards individuals who are either participating in any study and training course or internship programs. Educational Institutions such as universities or Research centres authorised by the government of any country or private entity. 

While applying for this permit, a letter is required from the entity carrying details about the study/training/internship course and its duration.

Job Exploration Entry Visa

This Visa Type has been introduced for skilled professionals to enable them to explore job opportunities available within UAE. No sponsor or host is required to apply for this Visa type. Candidates planning to apply for this Visa should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Business Entry Visa

Investors or Entrepreneurs can apply for this Visa to enter UAE and take advantage of the business opportunities available in the country. This Visa does not require any host or sponsor.

Golden Residence Scheme for Scientists

This residence permit is offered to students and researchers with exceptional achievement and significant influence in their respective fields. However the permit will be provided after recommendation from Emirates Scientists Council.

In order to qualify for this Permit, candidates are required to have a maste’s degree or PhD in disciplines such as engineering, technology, life sciences and natural sciences. Applicants should have received the degree from an accredited university with substantial research work.

Golden Residence Scheme for Professionals

This Visa Category was updated to draw in highly skilled foreign professionals in different fields like law, education, medicine, engineering, Information Technology, business and administration and so on.

To apply for this residence permit, candidates should have a proper employment contract with an organisation in UAE. Applicants should be classified within the first or second occupational category as per the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation classification. 

The Ministry follows the guidelines of International Standard of Classification of Occupations ISCO by the International Labour Organisation.

Green Residence for Skilled Employees

Skilled workers in UAE can apply for this five year Residency Permit. While applying, candidates need to have a valid employment contract with salary of AED 151,000 or above. They should also have a bachelor’s degree or higher educational qualification. Applicants must also be classified under first, second or third occupational level as per the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Green Residence for Freelancers and Self Employers

This residence scheme was introduced to meet the high demand for flexible work model. The permit offers residency for five years to freelancers and self-employed individuals. 

While no sponsor or host is required, a self-employment permit is required from Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. 

Applicants should have bachelor’s degree or equivalent to meet minimum educational qualification requirements. Annual income from self employment should be around AED 360,000 for last two years.

Other than these, UAE is also offering entry permit for temporary work permits, Visas for friend or relatives and Tourist Visa.
