Kannnur University PhD admissions 2023 will open soon. Admission in PhD. program is through the entrance test conducted by Kannur University followed by Interview. Candidates who have cleared JRF/Lectureship in the NET/GATE examinations conducted by such bodies as UGC, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, and other similar institutions of the Central Government or those who have secured the Research Fellowship (of three years or more) of State/ Central Government funding agencies are exepted from the Entrance Test but they will be required to attend the Interview conducted by the University. 

Kannur University offers a PhD program in various disciplines. The minimum duration of a PhD. program is three years including the course work, which can be further extended to a maximum duration of six years. Women candidates and candidates with disability of more than 40% are allowed a relaxation of two years for PhD program. Applicants will be shortlisted after the Entrance Examination. Applications can be submitted online through Kannur University website. The application and Entrance Examination fee of INR 615 shall be submitted through SBI E-pay.

Kannur University PhD Eligibility Criteria

  • Master's Degree from a recognized University as equivalent to the Master's Degree of Kannur University with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade 'B' on the UCC 7-point scale.
  •  Candidates who are doing their PG fifth semester should have passed the examination with the required criteria before the Interview date. 
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks from 55% to 50% or an equivalent relaxation of grade shall be allowed to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and Differently-Abled Persons and other categories of candidates.

Kannur University PhD Admission Process

The admission in Kannur University PhD program will be based on the entrance test.

The Entrance Test will be of two hours duration and will carry a maximum of 100 marks including objective and descriptive questions. Entrance Test will be based on the syllabus of UGC/CSIR/NET examinations.

All the candidates getting a minimum of 50% marks (OBC 45% and SC/ST 40%) in the Entrance Test shall be called for the interview before the Dept. Research Committee.

Candidates recommended by the Department Research Committee will be given admission to Course Work and PhD. Program.

Note: Regular M Phil Degree holders in the relevant subject will be eligible for exemption from the Course Work based on the recommendation of the Department Research Committee.

Exemption from Entrance Test

  • Those who have cleared JRF/Lectureship in NET/GATE exams conducted by such bodies as UGC, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR and other similar institutions of Central Govt.
  • Candidates who have secured the Research Fellowship (of three years or more) of State /Central Government funding agencies or such other exams recognized by University as equivalent and awarded JRF.

Selection Process

Applicants who have been shortlisted after the Entrance Examination or otherwise eligible shall submit a synopsis of their Research Work before the Department Research Committee and shall undergo a Course Work of six months duration on the recommendation of the Department Research Committee.
