Tamil University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program offered at Tamil University shall fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • A Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject from a renowned university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks. Admission in the course is conducted on the basis of the educational qualifications and as per the marks scored in the entrance test.
  • A relaxation of 5% is given to candidates from SC/ST/OBC and to specially-abled people.
  • Must have qualified for the TURCET exam.
  • Candidates who have qualified NET / SET / UGC-CSIR JRF would be exempted from the entrance test and would be considered for admissions directly.

Tamil University Ph.D. Admission Criteria

Admission to the Ph.D. program of Tamil University is done on the basis of the TURCET entrance exam followed by personal interview.

Selection of the candidates will be decided by the HOD as per the reservation rules of the Government of Tamil Nadu. After the respective selection, the candidate would have to appear for an interview with the HOD and the Dean of the faculty.

  • Attach your birth certificate and other documents at the bottom of the form.
  • Mention the date of filling the form along with your signature.
  • Mention the details of the center you wish to study in and mention the academic year along with the course program you’re enrolling in.
  • Pay the application form fee online and submit the form. You can also download the filled application form and submit it to the college’s premises along with the mandatory documents and a demand draft by post or demand draft.

  • Students are required to maintain 75 % compulsory attendance to undertake doctoral research under the full-time category.

Synopsis Submission: Synopsis submission is permitted three months prior to the minimum period that must contain the title of the dissertation, methods, results, etc.

Thesis/ Dissertation Submission: Ph.D. students should submit five copies of the dissertation to the Controller of Exams office. They shall also submit one copy to the Department along with its hard copy in PDF format.

Viva-Voce Examination: A public viva-voce examination shall be arranged for the Ph.D. candidates who have been recommended for award of Ph.D. degree by three examiners who adjudicated the dissertation.
