The College on the Hill

YT
8.3 /10

The financial aid award they gave was great. The setting of the college is rural and something I'd never experienced before. The small class sizes were also a plus - the largest class I've been in had 100 people, while most of my classes have been 10-20 people.

Course Curriculum :

It's great, depending on your major it changes but we also distributive requirements to finish. Those include a philosophy course, a foreign language, math-based course, science-based course, two writing courses, a technology course, and western and non-western based courses.

Exams :

SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP exams. APs: Spanish, Computer Science A, Art History, American Government, Microeconomics, Calc AB, Biology, English Literature.

Events :

We have "big weekends" every term -- the big events we have every quarter. Fall term is a homecoming, with a huge traditional bonfire, parties, and tons of alumni coming back. Winter term has Winter Carnival, with winter activities, ski races, a pond party, and family friendly fun. Spring term we have Green Key, with is a weekend of concerts, free food, and the main headliner. Frats and sororities also have parties these big weekends.

Fees :

Tuition is pretty steep - the total cost for the school is $75k for the upcoming year. That includes tuition, student fees, health insurance, room and board, dining plan, books, and transportation.

Scholarship :

Yes, the school automatically sends financial aid forms every year for the upcoming year. You fill out an application, as well as the FAFSA and send your tax documents through IDOC. They also have a survey that you fill out and the school matches you with school scholarships that you qualify for.

Examination Structure :

Exams depend on the department and class. Science and math classes are usually exam based, with two or three midterms and a final every term. Essay based classes usually have two main papers and a huge final paper at the end.

Faculty :

The faculty is super involved and easy to reach. All have office hours that they announce at the beginning of the term and also work to meet outside of office hours if you can't make it. They're all passionate about their subjects and most if not all are amazing teachers.

Hostel :

Almost all students can live on campus for all four years. I've lived in a greek house and a living-learning community, which is a dorm/house with a learning theme. Those who live off campus have to find someone to sublease which is difficult if you can't find someone to pass the lease to you.
