I chose the Bachelor of Psychology (Hons.) Program at Griffith University as the cost of the course for international students is more affordable when compared to other universities in Australia. The course is highly regarded in the country as one of the best schools to offer APAC registered psychology courses. The university has plenty support systems such as international student advisors and griffith mates which helps nee students integrate into the community and get to know other new students and the country. These support systems aided in my decision making process of chosing a university.
Course Curriculum :
The Bachelor of Psychology Honours program is rigorous and relevant to the mental health industry. The school offers students with plenty industrial exposure in the form of workshops and opportunities to become registered mental healthcare workers. The lectures make use of tutors to help students consolidate their learning and help with assignments. We also have Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) where previous successfull students help current student learn the material. We have opportunities to conduct our own research in the form of assignments and are even given opportunities to become research assistants or tutors with the university - the only requirements are a current background and police check, high GPA (above 6/7) and working with childrens check. The course helps studenrs evaluate and understand tests that measure intellectual, behavioural, and emotional states, and to apply psychological theories to areas such as thinking and perception, stress, health, criminal activity and group behaviour.
Exams :
The admission requrienents vary with every program at Griffith University. My scores: IELTS: 8, IB total score: 33. The university does not require any standardized tests such as ACT or SAT.
Placement :
During post-graduate studies the uiversity sets students up with placements across many employment sectors. After the degree, if the company appreciates the students work they often keep them on and the students become employees for that company. We have an online reference system which allows students to select an academic and they then recieve a personalised reference from their appointment referee. Alumni networking events are held multiple times a year both online and in person. They allow students with the opportunity to meet previous successfull griffith university students and pick their brain for ideas and tips to help them succeed.
Events :
There are hundreds of clubs at Griffith University from the Harry Potter Club to the Serotonins Acapella music group. The activities are different across the four campuses. The MyGriffith homepage has a noticeboard which allows students to keep track of it all. We have free food truck days, networking events, day trips and carnivals as well as walkabouts around Australian land. Griffith Mates often organise karaoke or movie nights at the uni-bar and theater for students to unwind. Combining fun and learning the universities host career events with fun games as well as opportunities to meet employees and recruiters from different firms and employment sectors. We aim celebrate the rich, diverse culture at Griffith University through interactive games, activities and experiences that allow students to make new friendships and create lasting memories.
Scholarship :
I recieved the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Scholarship wich is $2000/trimester for the first 2 trimesters. To obtain this scholarship I was required to weite an essay on why I deserved it.
Faculty :
The faculty to student ratio lies at 1:40. All faculty are highly esteemed in their field and published authors. We often use books written by the staff and they are extremely approachable. University policy highlights that all staff is to reply to students within 48 hours however not on the weekend. They answer all queries and if they do not have an answer immediately, my experience is that they research about the topic on their own time and get back to you when they can. It is because of the friendly and approachable staff that the university is in the top 200 universities around the world.
Hostel :
No. I live with a childhood friend in the suburbs near university. The house is 2 minutes away from a bus stop that has buses that take you to Griffith University Mt. Gravatt Campus in 20 minutes.
