PhD at UNB

MK
7.3 /10

The university had an Institute of biomedical engineering. The institute specialized in prosthesis research, which was what I sought to get into. I also sought to work with the professors associated with the institute to supervise my research.

Course Curriculum :

I enjoy the curriculum. As a Ph.D., I think the course load and format of qualifiers and proposal is time-consuming and unnecessary but overall a good program. I would like to see more flexibility allowed for PhDs.

Fees :

Fees structure is by term. For graduate students, this is reasonable and drops after three years. Other charges include the student union, health, and dental, technology fee, facilities fee.

Scholarship :

I am fully funded through a scholarship with the university. I received a nomination from my supervisor and was selected to receive the funding.

Examination Structure :

Exams are run in a typical style. 3-hour exams for courses at the end of each term. Exams are written by professors. Graduate-level courses tend to opt for a take-home or project instead of a formal exam.

Faculty :

The faculty is fairly strong. I would like to see more female role models and professors on staff. There is some limitation in areas of research covered in the faculty and thus limiting electives for students at the undergrad level.
