Dawson College in a brief summary

NN
9.5 /10

It is a downtown college with a high percentage of graduate students. They provide the program I want to study and also have a lot of qualified teachers. They have a lot of faculties to help students from personal problems to educational issues. In Quebec - Canada, we go to CEGEP, or college, after finishing grade 11 and then we can take either 2 years programs and go up to universities after, or take a 3years program or also called technical program, which will then provide you with a DEC degree which you can use to enter the workforce

Course Curriculum :

It is very straight forward and prepare you prefectly for your graduation, as well as to find a job after grad. They have everything logically scheduled but since it is a 3 years program, the work load is much higher than that in high school.

Exams :

The minimum score to get into my program, for people who graduate from high school in Quebec, is that your total average must be over 75%, and especially for Mathematics, your average must be over 75%. You need to pass all provincial exams with a high mark which will also contribute into your total average at the end of high school. As per for international students going to schools outside of Canada, your IELTS must be over 6.5 to be able to attend the course. And for other requirements for International students, you have to submit a transmit of your high school wherever it is, and you need to have a significant average, or at least showing your effort while attending school.

Placement :

As teachers are experts in their fields and they have a very wide network, building a good relationship with your professors can really help you to find a decent to high paying job depends mostly on your ability. they also give you recommendations and offer you as many opportunities as possible

Internship :

Yes they do, and they have specific offices on campus where you can walk in and ask for help to find one. The people in these offices are very friendly and helpful, even if they cannot help you find a job on campus, it is guaranteed they can find you something else outside

Events :

we celebrate Pride month, Green Earth day, Halloween, Christmas and so much more. Most of the events are held by the Students Union called DSU. Some of the events require the campus to all march around the city together as a form of showing we care, like Green earth.

Fees :

Since its a public school, if you are from the province of Quebec, you are not paying tuition fees but only faculty fees. If you are from outside of Quebec but within Canada, you have to pay a higher amount. And as for international students, the fee is really high. However, the school does offer scholarships for students with high academic achievements, or financial aid for students from the province of Quebec and also provide groceries for students in need.

Examination Structure :

the exam structure varies with the teachers and the courses. But generally, they will announce you a few weeks ahead, and all of the exams will be done before any breaks. Most of the time, the teachers will place the test earlier so you will finish the course earlier and get a longer break. It mostly depends on your teachers

Faculty :

Teachers are very experienced. They are all experts in their fields, many of them have a PhD and have their own businesses. Teaching method change according to the teachers, but it is very easy to access the course materials as teachers usually post them on an app called Omnivox used by every college in Quebec as a took for communication between students and teachers. Faculty of the college is modern and accessible. They provided everything you need within the college and more.

Hostel :

I live in my apartment, as we do not have accommodation on campus, but the school does have a service of helping students finding accommodation. This has proven to be very effective, and the college has affiliation outside which can help to check the accommodation before introducing as an option to students
