Latest Update: Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Kolkata is inviting applications for admission to its PhD program in Physics and Biophysical Sciences starting from August 2023 (2023-24 Session). The last date to apply for admission is April 25, 2023.

Selection of candidates for admission to PhD program will be done based on previous academic records, performances in nationwide screening tests and interview conducted by the institute. The interview for shortlisted candidates will be held in the month of May 2023.

Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata offers PhD programs with 2 specialization options. It offers a PhD program in Biophysical Sciences and Physics. In the Physics specialization, the candidate intake is based on two different branches that are Experimental Physics and Theoretical Physics. The duration of the PhD course is 3 years. The course curriculum starts with Pre PhD programs which are known as Post M.Sc. program which is divided into 3 trimesters.

The eligibility criteria for the programs is that the candidates must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in M.Sc. with specialization subjects. The admission criteria are based on the performance in national levels entrance tests such as JEST, GATE, CSIR or UGC NET, and JGEEBILS.

Applicants must have minimum eligibility criteria for applying to the programs. The details of the eligibility criteria are given below:

  • For PhD programs with Physics specialization, applicants must have 60% marks in M.Sc. Physics and minimum aggregate marks in B.Sc.
  • For the Biophysical Sciences discipline, applicants must have a qualified M.Sc. with a minimum of 60% marks in M.Sc. chemistry or Physics and a minimum of 55% marks in B.Sc. It is also required to have passed the 10+2 examination with a Life Science paper.
