National Institute of Design was established in 1961. It is an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. NID has been declared ‘Institution of National Importance by the Act of Parliament, by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act 2014. The institute offers Designing courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level. Admission to the courses offered by the institute will be done based on the candidate’s performance in the Design Entrance Exam. National Institute of Design Facilities

Some of the top facilities offered by NID Hyderabad are given below: 

  • Mess: The Student Mess is run by the Institute on a contractual basis and a Students’ Mess Committee oversees its operation.
  • Health Care: A doctor is available at the campus dispensary for consultation and advice at specific timings. There are no hospitalisation facilities on campus. In an emergency, the local guardian shall be informed and arrangements can be made in only government hospitals when recommended by a doctor
  • Counselling: Problems such as anxiety and depression or concerns about relationships, eating disorders, alcohol,or drugs may affect people at one time or another. Although these problems may initially seem minor, they can increase in intensity and interfere with daily life. The institute consults professional counsellors and facilitates their meetings with students. The counsellors are available by appointment
  • Extra Curricular Activities: The Students Activity Committee (SAC) is a sociocultural organization of the Institute that promotes a healthy academic environment and student-friendly services including sports, social and special interest activities along with support and advice on any issue.

Ques. Does NID provide  hostel facilities? 

Ans. Yes. The college does provide the hostel facility. NID is under no obligation to provide hostel facilities beyond its capacity. Priority for hostel facility is given to outstation students. Students may choose to reside outside on appropriate PG/hired accommodation singly or in groups as the case may be. Students residing in the NID hostel must observe its prevalent rules and regulations.

Ans.  NID entrance exam is considered to be one of the toughest design entrance exams conducted in the country. IN NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective, drawing related questions. Thus, candidates need to be extremely creative and have a clear understanding of their concepts when appearing for the NID exam.
