Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering is a four-year program which encompasses of total eight semesters. And an examination is held at the end of each semester. Since the establishment of the branch, it has involved a wide range of study areas, in India as well as other foreign countries. Mainly, it has shown a great scope of exposure relentlessly in these few years. Sir P.K Raina, considered one of the main heads of the institute, is a Ph.D. holder from IIT Kanpur and knows how to incentivize new talents. At present, he is known as the Students Associate Dean of IIT Ropar.  In terms of infrastructure, there is a separate building in the permanent campus, usually called the Satish Dhawan for SMMEE. Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more

Ans. One of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy and here are some facts about the institute I got to know from her. As you have not mentioned any specifications, let me just describe the placement scenario of Metallurgy at NIT Trichy. The placements generally vary from year to year.  Out of a batch of around 60 students, people looking for placements every year is around 40. The rest of the people either go for higher studies or have some other plans.  Most of the people get into material science-related fields at very good universities. Out of the 40 students, around 30 usually get placed.  Companies that usually open for metallurgy graduates include, Core Metal (steel/ aluminium), Automobile, Analytics, Software and others. There are a few companies that are regular visitors. The rest depends on the market and your training placement coordinator. Placements for metallurgy students are lesser than the other departments. Ans. B.Tech in material science in NIT CALICUT is a slightly underrated course as it is newly introduced. NIT Calicut also has an M.Tech course for material science.  The material science branch in NIT Calicut is a very promising branch despite being an underrated and newly introduced branch and has become an important part of NIT Calicut. This branch also has a dedicated department for nanotechnology. Recently they have made their college proud by preparing and distributing hand sanitizer in the entire campus and also in local sections of society to fight against the coronavirus pandemic.  The placements of this department are not as great as in the computer science department as it is a newly introduced branch.  This is a research-oriented branch with a strong alumni network. Ques. Which is better, metallurgy at NIT Warangal or an MSc in Biology at BITS Goa?

One of my cousins recently encountered a similar situation where she had to choose between an M.Sc in Chemistry at BITS Hyderabad, and Biotechnology at NIT Warangal.  Having a conversation with the seniors, she found out that placements at NIT Warangal for Biotechnology, Metallurgy, Civil, and Chemical, are not as good as they should be. The recruiters are a handful, like Dr. Reddy’s, who recruit a few students out of many. Most of the students begin preparing for CAT or GRE during their 3rd and 4th year of the course. The ECE placements are quite reasonable. This means, the median package for circuit branches in BPHC can range anywhere from around 10 LPA to 11 LPA, while the average package can still be higher.  However, Metallurgy will not supposedly bring as many prospects as other branches can. It can pose a real problem in your case. You can choose to pursue an MBA or opt to study abroad for an MS.  But, M.Sc in Biology at BITS Goa can possibly be a good choice because you will still secure a position in EEE, ECE, or ENI. It can fetch you a position in the IT sector. The placements between BITS Pilani and BITS Goa are almost in the same range, with little to no difference at all. Only recently, there are candidates who went abroad to MIT or Caltech after their M.Sc, to pursue their thesis. It can make an easy dodge for you to secure seats in MS or Ph.D. programs. I choose this particular stream because of low competition, high importance and rapidly growing demand in the field of the petroleum industry as well as in a way to control plastic consumption and management. Faculty student's ratio is good and faculties are very responsible. All of them are highly qualified and recognized at the national level and are directly recruited by the central government. The exam is on time and the syllabus is completed on time. Odd sem exams are held in dec 15-30 and even sem are held on mid-April to May.

Internships Opportunities :

There no special internship provided by a college so you have to go out for the industrial experience. You are eligible for an internship from the second year and your marks should be more than just 40% every last year. If you have done an internship in foreign countries like Germany, Japan, and Canada you have a really high chance to get a very good placement.

Placement Experience :

After 7th-semester students are eligible for placement. The average placement is of 5 lakhs at Max to 12 lakhs per annum or more. The placement record is more than 85%. The percentage for students to get placement should be more than 60% in all years for the average package. For a good package, your score should be more than. 80%.

Campus life is really good. 80:20 ratio of boys and girls. there is table tennis court, badminton court, volleyball court for sports. while for industrial knowledge carpentry shop, plastics processing shop, computer labs, e-library available. as it's a engineering college there is no politics or racism. you are also free to follow your religious guidelines.

College Events :

Annual function ANANT. Seminar related to plastics material processing and testing, AutoCAD, pro-e. our college it's annual function each n every year for farewell of last year students. each year 2-3 seminars happens in our college. Plast India is a big seminar happens once in 3 years. students got free entry for it.

Placement Experience :

100% placement college, starting package is low, but just after 1-2 year experience you will get good amount. M. N. C companies like M. M. D. L GURGAON, LOHIA STARLINGER KANPUR, VECTUS PIPE, PRINCE PIPE and many more. college faculty also helps for 4 week internship after 2nd & 3rd year.

Admission :

I opted for this college because I'm an average student and this college seemed an ideal college for me. Factors: stream I chose was slightly unique and has low competition and a high chance of placement or to start a business/startup in the related field. Placement is average but the course curriculum is good, faculty is cooperative. And if you want to study further then you should know that most of the students crack GATE as an academic result is good.

Course Curriculum Overview :

There are two courses taught here 1. Plastic Engineering (PE) 2. Manufacturing technology (MT) in which MT is a harder but better chance of getting a decent job than PE. As per the curriculum, it is good as faculty really is serious and strict besides one or two and looks forward to your academic growth. The course is structured by AKTU for BTech so it has to be a bit messed up but you will not face any difficulty.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There is a SCHOLARSHIP provided by up govt and there is a high 95% chance for you to get it. Only if you are alert. Eligibility is you/your parents should have a domicile certificate of UP. Family income should not be more than 2.5 lakhs per annum i.e. income certificate of anyone in the family. 10/12 mark sheet and other documents. If there is a problem then ask your seniors they will surely help.

All the seniors are being kind to us and treat us as the similar friends group person which encourages to do friendships with others and give an positive atmosphere in the college which is being good for us. The seniors may share their experiences to us and gives suggestions for the preparation for exams.

Remarks :

Some of the equipment in class rooms are being not wirking properly and in some of the classes the air conditioner is not working, also last year question papper are bing not available on the college or university website due to change in syllabus.

College Events :

Every year the Tech- fest, sports championship and annual day are being organised by the college, also other activities are being celebrated as quiz and many other activities are organized by students which gives different enthusiasm to students.
