ICSE Class 10 Exams 2023: Question Paper, Students' Reaction, Syllabus & Result

ICSE class 10 exams began on February 27, 2023, with English Language paper. The class 10 exams are held for a duration of two hours from 11 AM to 1 PM. Theory exam carries 80 marks and the remaining 20 marks are allotted to the internal assessment. 

CISCE conducted class 10 Mathematics paper on March 10, 2023. The exam was held for a duration of two and a half hours. As per the initial reaction from the students, the paper was moderate in difficulty level. ICSE Mathematics theory paper carried a total of 80 marks. The questions included MCQs, short answer, and long answer type questions.

  • There were two sections in the question paper – A and B. 
  • All the questions in section A were compulsory, while in section B, students were required to attempt any four questions.
  • Each section was of 40 marks. 

The MCQs were quite easy for students but the long answer questions in section B were a bit tricky. Overall, the paper was a balanced one with a mix of easy and difficult questions.

ICSE Class 10 History and Civics Paper Analysis

ICSE conducted class 10 History and Civics paper on March 6, 2023. The paper was moderate but lengthy. History and Civics paper was divided into two parts – I and II. All the questions in part I were compulsory. In part II, there were 2 sections – A and B. Students were required to attempt any 2 questions from section A and 3 questions from section B.

ICSE Class 10 English Paper Analysis

As per the students, ICSE class 10 English language paper was moderately difficult. The difficulty level of the paper was the same as that of the ICSE specimen papers. There were 5 questions in total. The writing part of the paper i.e. first three questions were simple and easy. Students found the objective-type questions in the fourth and fifth questions a little tricky. 

  • First Question – It carried 20 marks. The question was on composition writing (300 – 350 words).
  • Second Question – It was based on Letter Writing and carried a total of 10 marks.
  • Third Question – It was divided into two parts – Notice and E-mail Writing. 
  • Fourth Question – It included an unseen passage and questions based on it.
  • Fifth Question – This question was based on Grammar.

About ICSE

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) was set up by replacing Cambridge School Certification Examination and replacing it with an All India Examination in 1958. CISCE conducts the ICSE 10th board exams every year usually in the month of February or March. The students who have cleared the class 9th exam from the schools affiliated with CISCE can apply for the ICSE 10th exams.

Students appearing for the examination will have six or seven subjects, with one to three papers in each subject. This makes for a total of eight to eleven papers, based on the subjects. This year, there is no semester-wise division of the syllabus and the exams are scheduled from February 27 to March 29, 2023.

ICSE class 10 registration is done through offline mode. The application form shall be submitted to the school by the students. Candidates are required to fill out the registration form as per the directions of the school. All the details shall be filled in carefully as the same is used in other certificates and documents.  

  • The registration form shall be submitted with the prescribed fee.
  • Candidates shall present the registration card provided at the time of initial registration in class 9.
  • Registration forms once submitted cannot be edited. So candidates are advised to fill in all the details carefully.

ICSE class 10 exam pattern for session 2022-23 has been revised. For the current academic year, the old exam pattern i.e. the pre-covid era curriculum is followed. There is no reduction in ICSE class 10 syllabus for the 2023 exam. The maximum marks for each subject are 100 of which 30 marks will be allocated for the practical exam and 70 marks will be for the written exam. ICSE Class 10 Subjects

In ICSE Board, there are a few combinations of subjects that students are not allowed to opt for. The combinations are listed below:

  • Environmental Science of Group II and Environmental Applications of Group III.
  • Economics of Group II and Economic Applications of Group III.
  • Commercial Studies of Group II and Commercial Applications of Group III.
  • Sanskrit as a second language of Group I and Sanskrit as a classical language of Group II.

ICSE class 10 results will be released in the month of May 2023, tentatively. Students will be able to check the result and download the scorecard from the official website of CISCE. The original mark sheet will be available in the school along with other documents 15 days after the declaration of ICSE 10th result 2023.

Step 1: Go to the official website – results.cisce.org.

Step 2: The result login page will appear on the screen as shown below.

ICSE Class 10 Compartment Exams 2023

The Council of Indian School Certificate Examinations will conduct the ICSE 10th compartment exams in July 2023, tentatively. Students who have failed in not more than 3 subjects can apply for the compartment exams. The timetable for the compartment exams will be released on the board’s official page – cisce.org.  

  • Applications to appear for the compartment exams can be made through schools. 
  • Students will be charged Rs. 1500 to sit for the ICSE compartment exams. 
  • The results of the compartment exams will be released on the official website, tentatively in August 2023.
