Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi

RIMS was established in 1960 under an act of Jharkhand Assembly. It was named after the first president, Rajendra Prasad. It is an autonomous body affiliated to Ranchi University. They offer MBBS, BDS, MS, MD, M.CH and diploma courses in various departments. It has a medical hospital and it came into existence in 1965. 

  • RIMS Ranchi takes admissions into undergraduate and postgraduate courses through NEET-UG and NEET-PG.
  • The MBBS course is of 5.5 years and the annual fees are INR 7,270. According to MCI, the seats for MBBS have increased to 150 seats.
  • The BDS course is of 5 years and the annual fees are INR 9,350. About 63 seats are available every year for BDS.
  • About 15% of the seats are filled through the central quota and the rest through the JCECE Board examination.
  • The annual fees for PG courses like MS are INR 180,000 and MD is INR 105,000.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College and Hospital, Jamshedpur

MGM Medical College, established in 1961 is one of the best medical colleges in Jharkhand. It is affiliated to Kolhan University, Chaibasa and is approved by the Medical Council of India. They offer full-time programs in MBBS, DCH, DGO, DG MRD, MD, and MS.

  • MGM Medical College takes admissions into undergraduate and postgraduate courses through NEET-UG and NEET-PG.
  • The MBBS course is of 4.5 years + 1-year rotatory internship. Only 50 seats are available every year for the MBBS course.
  • The PG courses in the board specialty are of 3 years and diploma courses are of 2 years after MBBS. They provide only 11 seats for PG courses every year.
  • The annual fees for MBBS are INR 9130, MD is INR 1,500 and MS is INR 1,500.

Patliputra Medical College, Dhanbad

Patliputra Medical College was established in 1971 in Patna and was under private management. The college was then transferred to Dhanbad by the government of Bihar and attached to Sadar hospital. It is affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) and approved by the Medical Council of India. They offer MBBS, M.D, M.S, diploma, and paramedic courses.

  • Patliputra Medical College offers admissions into undergraduate and postgraduate courses through NEET-UG and NEET-PG.
  • The MBBS course is for 5.5 years and has a total fee of INR. 42.2 LPA.
  • Currently, the college only admits 50 students in MBBS and offers full-time education.

Medical Colleges in Jharkhand: Entrance Exam wise

Admission to top medical colleges in India is done on the basis of marks secured in the national level entrance exam namely NEET. Additionally, for admission in postgraduate medical colleges, one needs to appear in NEET PG.

NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate) is a national level entrance examination conducted for admission into  MBBS/ BDS courses in approved and recognized Medical/ dental colleges across India.
