With the increasing demands in the trends of academic circles, the need for graduate engineers is also on the rise. But there is a huge gap between academic skills and industry requirements, which requires additional training for the engineers. It is necessary to build an environment that allows the students to prepare for required methodological competency for employment.

Keeping this problem in mind, JIS Group has tied up with German technological giants, Bosch-Rexroth and inaugurated the region’s first “JIS-Bosch-Rexroth Centre of Excellence” at the NiT campus on March 11, 2019. Other personalities were also present at the inauguration were Mr. Amanjot Singh, Director, JIS Group, Ms. Nidhi Singh, Registrar, NiT, students and faculty.

A training system has been initiated worth one crore rupees which have Hydraulic Training System and Pneumatic Training System. The training includes Classroom training, Virtual training, E-learning, Simulation tools, Animation, Automation Studio, Industrial visits, and Hands-on training.

“Skilling is different in India from that of Germany. In Germany, students get their education alongside three years of internship in an industry where industry practitioners guide students. This dual educational and vocational training makes them industry ready and they become masters of the trade in 6-7 years. German companies attach a lot of importance to continuous education and training. Germany and India both are trying to work through bilateral agreement for a dual system of education and vocational training. I hope through this Bosch lab set up, ties between NiT and Germany is strengthened”, stated Dr. Michael Feiner, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Chief Guest in the inauguration.

“With a view to generate trained professional for automation in industries, we have entered into a collaboration with Bosch-Rexroth, Germany who are market leaders in drives and control equipment. The Centre of Excellence with high-end machinery aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from industry, academia, Academic researchers and manufacturers and provide a platform for exchanging ideas and collaborate. The centre is sure to be beneficial to M.Tech, B.Tech and Diploma students as it will add to their employment potential”, stated Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, JIS Group.

“This is the first training centre in Eastern India. We are opening another in Odisha. Our main training is in hydraulics and pneumatics. This training can be used by students in real time operations experience and problem solving as they get a thorough firsthand experience of playing with hydraulics, they can experiment and exercise as per some predefined exercises are given to them. They can build circuits, have a taste of operations, tackle problems and devise solutions. This training will greatly reduce the time of students to seek additional training after their degrees as they get first-hand industrial training within the campus. By this training, they will leave their institutes trained better thereby increasing their chances of getting employment in industries like steel sectors. The training can also be a revenue-generating model as other industries, students of other colleges and those from ITI can avail this training. Students, researchers, and faculty can greatly benefit from this, stated Mr. Dhirendra Gandhi, General Manager (Service & Training)-Bosch Rexroth India Limited.

“It’s a milestone day for us today with the inauguration of this facility, which will especially benefit our mechanical engineering students. Industrial companies like Bosch Rexroth and others require competent educated employees for their worldwide production and development. This Centre of Excellence supports filling gaps that exist and aims to act as a centre to transfer current technologies to students and innovation centre which will improve Technical Competence, Employability and Entrepreneurship”, stated Prof.(Dr.) Maitreyi Ray Kanjilal, Principal -Narula Institute of Technology.
