How fruitful has been your academic association with IMS?

It has been a long and learning enabled journey”

My journey with IMS commenced from the day the college began operations. The college got affiliation from then WBUT in June 2006 and started working in August the same year. Along with IMS, I have also grown as a professional. When we started in 2006, we had three courses, BBA and BCA and a distance MBA course affiliated to Burdwan University, but now we have about 33 courses both undergraduate and postgraduate. We have 19 UG courses, 14 PG courses, M.Phil course and a research wing for PhD.

Do you plan on adding any extra courses to your college?

“B.Sc. in Medical Instrumentation & Critical Care Technology and BBA in Commerce & International Accounting are the two new courses introduced this year”

  • We offer commerce students BBA with Accountancy course and also prepared the curriculum for students who want to pursue finance.
  • Medical Lab Technology is also introduced by us.
  • BSc. in Physiotherapy Management has also been introduced. We teach students about patient counselling, art of physiotherapy along with management perspectives of the same.
  • We plan our courses keeping in mind the requirement of the industry and entrepreneurial perspectives

What are the placement statistics of your Institute?

“A dedicated placement cell to help our students kick start their career”

We try to provide the students with a decent package of INR 2.5-5 LPA on an average for undergraduate students. For postgraduate students, we try to give them a package of above INR 3.5 lacs per annum. We have students placed in PWC, Axis Bank, Bandhan Bank, different hospitals like Medica, Spandan Hospital, Antara Hospital, etc. We try to send them for internships in renowned organizations as well.

Do you have any extracurricular activities and skill-enhancing programs at your college?

“We have student-centric clubs and entrepreneur activities to support various interests of the students”

We introduced the concept of student clubs based on their extracurricular interests. These include a literary club for writing and reading, entrepreneurship club, where we encourage students to start their ventures and business; Nature Club for enhancing consciousness towards our environment and many more alike. We always try to offer more than just an academic curriculum.

As a Dean, how do you manage the academics and curriculum of IMS?

“With the help of a supportive team and curious students, we have expanded remarkably”

In the initial days of the Institute, we had a very small group of 6-7 faculty members and 40-41 students. But currently, we have more than 600 students and over 35 faculty members handling different courses. The demarcation took place 4-5 years ago when we were expanding the college and the courses. We have appointed Departmental heads for every individual Department. I take 20-22 classes alone per week, and additional M.phil classes too. I also guide and mentor students for different projects.

How does IMS ensure the best curriculum of the industry for students benefit?

“Aligning with MAKAUT, a Choice Based Credit System will soon be initiated for students”

Since we are affiliated with MAKAUT, we strictly follow their curriculum. Additionally, we revise the syllabus regularly. The university is now focusing on CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) pattern. It will include 14 Core Courses, 6 General Elective courses, 2 Ability Enhancement and Skill Enhanced courses. The curriculum is prepared by the University according to the needs of the industry.

What do you think should be the University's top priority over the next 10 years?

“To enable students with specialized knowledge and education to become self-reliant”

Our priority will be to give our students more hands-on training. We plan on building our students in a way that they become job givers rather than job seekers. Hence, we focus on the entrepreneurship practices regularly in the institute.
