Institute of Management Study

How would you describe your leadership style?

“Participative management of individuals”

Leadership is motivation. You have to bring all the members of your group in one line and make them confident that they are a part of the group. And, if you can bring confidence among the group members, your subordinates and collateral members can work from their own heart and mind. If you can make them feel that it is our organisation, then automatically they will contribute. You have to bring a convenient atmosphere so that they can feel that they are a part of the family, and extend their willful cooperation for the development of the organization.

How do you strategize the key plans for the administration of your Institute?

“Imparting varied skills for best input-output ratio”

Our focus is to develop managerial skills among all, be it students or faculty, and if that is developed then automatically there will be enough opportunities to develop management skills. Managerial skill is the part of decision making that in turn improves productivity. We input necessary sources, be HR resources, marketing resources, finance resources, system resources, management resources and optimise them accordingly. And side by side output is enhanced with technological skill, managerial skill, etc. You can control manpower and capital. If you control all the resources optimally, you can initially reduce the cost. If you want to sustain in the long run then you have to consider that you should be very much responsible for society.

How does the curriculum of IMS ensure the best practice of industry?

“Marking competency and functional value of each individual”

We encourage students to think about competency scale up and leveling. We train them in such a way that they are the products and the industries are the consumers. Until and unless you develop yourself as per the consumer, you cannot be sold, you cannot be absorbed. We map individual competency and product competency of every student and do the needful to upgrade their skills. Also, we develop their functional value, that is, what further you can contribute to the industries where you will be selected. Along with normal teaching, we make the industry people come over and share their opinion and guide the students about the current industry needs and skill set they need to develop and reach.

Any insights of the foreign affairs that your Institute is working on?

“Global collaborations and exchange program”

We have international tie ups with four renowned Universities. We have BBA and MBA courses with AIS, New Zealand. Students can opt to study two years over here and one year over there, and get a job as per his interest. A University in Malaysia has a tie up of PhD programs with IMS, Kolkata. Similarly, we have a tie up with West Germany and Singapore as well. It is a speciality of IMS that every year, we contact international industries from different parts of the world like, China, Thailand, New Zealand, Germany, etc. In the coming years we will explore these ideas more and more, and undergo large student-exchange and faculty-exchange programs.

How is IMS more welcoming to students of different economic backgrounds?

“Liability of bank loans and placement opportunities”

Our fee structure is very nominal. For everyone, a bank loan is provided and they have to spend nothing for admission at IMS. We have tied up with the banks, when students get admitted, the bank will take responsibility for the payment of fees. Bank will give a one year guarantee of not to pay any interest. We charge interest after one year of service. Also, our responsibility is to get them placed in good companies and offer high salary packages. In this way, we try to get them trained properly and skilled enough so that they can match the requirements of the industries.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth?

“Develop strong commitment and positive attitude towards life”

They should cheer up and give full commitment to life. Challenges will be there and there will be situations when we will have no control, but in spite of the adverse situation, whatever possible ways are there we have to stand in line. We must conquer, knowing that uncertainty is our part of life, and if you want to win, then you have to have the resilience power. Your physical activity follows your psychological activity. If you focus on your inner self then you will be more enthusiastic and energetic.

How did IMS cope with the adversity during COVID situation?

“Digital upgradation and real-life learning assistance”

COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed the teaching and learning scenario. Classes were held online and every week we arrange industrial seminars, workshops to give them more feedback about industrial requirements, so that they can develop the quality. We also conducted international and national webinars, so that the students could know how to combat the challenges in covid scenario, how to develop the career and how to develop the outer knowledge. Also, regular knowledge comes from the daily area of life but side by side, so they were able to learn from different aspects about management and education, with hardcore domain knowledge, soft skill knowledge, communication knowledge.
