Dr. Manisha Ubale is the HOD, Mathematics Department, at Indus University. She is a renowned faculty, with an experience over 29 years. She brings with her the ideology of exploring various domains to attain practical knowledge and make effective use of resources for the development of the students. Read here what she has to say in her interview.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“I believe in taking everyone together”

The HoD is the management's face for his/her fellow faculty members, staff, and department students. The role of the HoD is to mentor, guide, and help the faculty and students of the department. The leader is expected to take along all department members, and every process should be inclusive.

Every task and responsibility is carried out using the best quality in every individual of the team. Each member's suggestions and opinions are valuable, so deliberations are done on them before deciding anything.

How does the curriculum of Your department ensure the best practice of industry?

“We ensure to follow and inculcate the current industry trends in our syllabus”

My department takes care of Mathematics courses in all the constituent institutes of the university. The curriculum is designed with care, taking into consideration the requirements of the respective institutes. Thus, the demand for relevant industries is fulfilled. The syllabi are designed in consultation with domain experts from academic and research institutes.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the University and the students are?

“We keep a holistic approach towards students”

As a leader, my role is to grow the department, taking the team together and introducing new programs, nurturing the existing ones, and revising the courses to keep our students updated. We are contributing to all academic, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities organized by the University.

Conducting activities for students to give them 360 degrees’ growth. Mentoring the students for their academic needs and guiding them for their prospects and bright career.

When you first came to Indus University, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved, and how far have you reached in implementing the same?

“We have continuously evolved to become a centre of excellence”

I was associated with Indus University one year before it acquired the status of a university. In a short span of about six years as an affiliated college, it became an independent entity. With the freedom to work comes the responsibility to perform better. Maintaining the standards and continuously raising the bar is something I was looking forward to at that time. And I am happy to state that the University has made remarkable progress along the way. All the stakeholders share the credit for the same, but the lion’s share is management. Without the vision and support of the management, this success was not possible. I have contributed in all possible ways as a faculty, Research supervisor, HoD, and even as the Director in a short span.

What would you like people to know about your Department they may not know?

“Our dedicated faculties are a prime example of department being a centre of excellence”

The department is rich in terms of its faculty members and their qualifications. Half the members are Ph. D. holders and contributing by guiding Ph. D. scholars. The remaining are pursuing their doctoral research work. The dedication and sincerity with which each one is performing his / her duties help the department grow. The members keep them updated by training themselves in new and relevant emerging areas like data Science, Python programming, etc. It reflects the commitment of the faculty to quality output and thereby keeping our students also updated.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Students should make effective use of the resources curated for them”

Today’s youth is smart, tech-savvy, and aware of the surroundings. They need a little guidance, and they are capable of doing wonders. They are full of novel ideas. I suggest they try and think about creating jobs rather than seeking one and contributing to the “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” campaign of the Govt. of India. Lots of facilities and support is available these days from different Govt. agencies. They should take advantage of the same.
